Our lab is interested in understanding how gene regulatory sequences function and evolve. We use genomic, systems and synthetic biology approaches and are applying our knowledge to develop synthetic genetic networks for pathway and genome engineering in photosynthetic organisms. Our current projects aim at tailoring photosynthetic organisms for the efficient production of molecules used in healthcare and improving the yield and nutritional value of crops.
We are also interested in the complex questions of access and ownership that surround genetic sequences, biomolecules and biotechnologies. In that capacity, we work with several international organisations to investigate how access models to data, knowledge and technologies affect our ability to address global challenges.
